Airlines: There’s little reporting about a pending strike of Kenya Airways engineers; however K24 TV reported that this may affect plans of President Kibaki to fly to London next week as engineers were going slow on maintenance of his planned aircraft and also other repairs after another little reported aircraft incident.
Energy: Following last months electric shock it was pleasant to see my electricity bill drop from 2,600 to 1,800 shillings ($26). No thanks to KPLC though, as the savings came largely from taking cold showers that reduced consumption from 161 to 115 units . Meanwhile there was another increase in KPLC fuel cost from 769c/kwh to 778c/kwh this month.
- Why doesn’t the government owned National Oil Corp (NOCK) who are supposed to check against check the high petrol prices charged by oil marketers sell petrol at the Kshs. 100 per litre (~$6.4/gallon) price that Energy Ministry says is correct?

ICT: The Kenya government plans to set up an official blog by September this year to facilitate better communication between the government and the public. It's always refreshing catching up with news from home through your blog..however I was home a few days ago and read an article in one of the dailies (I think it had been placed in the Nation) of how dismayed Human Resource Managers aer because their job adverts are finding their way on to websites they know nothing about. I was rather dismayed by some of the comments because as a diaspora Kenyan who wishes to come back home gladly welcomes leads in terms of job opportunities from websites and blogs since we are not able to see the job ads on nation/EA Standard etc.
Kudos Bankelele for giving us in the diaspora an idea of opportunities we can apply for.
banks, there was a time i went to fuel my car at my regular petrol station and i found this old school E class merc filling up its tank with the owner sitting quietly in the drivers seat as it filled up, i found it clocked about 20 litres, i left it, after filling up my tiny 40 litre tank at 60 litres and climbing, i do not think that executive car is in my range, but this new one...makes you go hmmm...right? till you see its price tag. :-)
then this re-naming business. it is infectious. i am renaming my magazine soon too!

Fuel surcharges are not a KPLC issue. Or u have a vendetta against them?
As much as I hate paying so much for petrol, the government:
- imposes too excessive taxes
- forces oil marketers to use an INEFFICIENT refinery
- a dilapidated & inefficient pipeline
- poor roads increase cost of fuel deliveries
- can't control a gyrating KES. It hit 74/US$ last week.
Banks: After successfully reducing your electricity bill you can now start thinking about reducing your petrol bill. Even with your E class Mercedes you may be able to save something small. I have started keeping track of pump prices in Nairobi.
NCC buying cemetery land? Why is the municipality still involved in burying people? Why hasn't that function been privatized? Why in a city as populated as NBI aren't alternatives such as cremation being looked into? Who's to guarantee that that cemetery land won't be grapped as well?

Coldtusker: nothing against KPLC, they are simply tax collectors for the government,, the problem is that they try and wriggle out by pointing out that they are only collecting fuel fees for someone else (so don’t blame them)
Mugarura: there’s cremation, yes, but many African & Christian societies find that unpalatable
