Less Talk
There’s a backlash against colourful/media-friendly personalities right now: COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and NGO Council chairlady Orie-Rogo Manduli are both under-fire by members of their respective organizations – who believe that their motor mouths are damaging the credibility of the organizations they lead. John Githongo has become the Kenyan Dick Cheney – who now lives at an “undisclosed location,” while Ezekiel Mutua of the KUJ is under fire from all sides. Meanwhile it appears that the media has given Martha Karua blackout following her erratic behaviour when they show up, and Mutava Musyimi has gone underground since it was revealed that his anti-corruption body had received their 200 million-budget allocation (hopefully they are putting it to work)

I once met Orie Rogo-Manduli, and she is a bit of a character. Nothing wrong with that, or is it affecting policy?
some of the bigger NGO's such as action aid are opposed to her chairing the council -saying she's not a bona-fide NGO person, and that her NGO was conveniently registered last year, just so she could assume the chair. They say also that the Canadian govt, and other major donor bodies, have stopped supporting the council
I met Orie in very amusing circs - She was trying on those shoes sold by hawkers infront of Kenya Cinema.
I for one admire her zest for life and her eclectic fashion sense.
But there is something to be said for restraint especially when you are the NGO council chair. Honestly some of the things that comne out of her mouth!!!
Same goes for Atwoli.
